optical cable……………..?
i bought a optical cable for my ps2 so i can have suround sound but its not working.i changed the settings but i get no sound,did i buy the wrong one?its a toslink digital optical cable and i have a boston home theatre system.thx
You should just be able to connect the PS2 to your home theater system, and set the theater system to that input. That’s all there is to it.
Make sure the cable is firmly connected. It should gently “click” into place. There is no ‘wrong’ cable. Optical audio/TOSLINK is the same thing.
Also make sure you connected the cable to an INPUT on your theater system, and not an output. Some have both optical audio inputs and outputs and designers seem to love putting the two right next to each other.
If you still don’t get any sound, disconnect the cable from the home theater system. With the PS2 turned on, you should see a red light coming through the cable. If you don’t then the cable is broken and you need to buy a new one. Optical audio cable is made from thin flexible plastic. It’s not as bendable as a copper wire (speaker, video cable) and can actually snap if you bend it too hard.
If you do see a red light from the cable, try connecting up a DVD player or other device that also has optical audio output. If that doesn’t work, then it could still be the cable, or even the port on your home theater system. Try a new cable. If that still doesn’t work then it could be your home theater system isn’t configured properly (my theater system required me to turn on my optical audio port), doesn’t actually have an optical audio input, or is damaged somehow.
